WROC-TV/ New York is hiring aChief Engineerwho operates maintains updates and repairs hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations. We are looking for a responsible intelligent self-starter ideally someone with technical experience in the broadcast industry. This position reports directly to the station VP/General Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department and is responsible for the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the station and transmitter site
Ensures station compliance with FCC rules and regulations as well as all local state and federal regulations applicable to the station
Works with corporate leadership to develop and implement new technologies and technical infrastructure for the station
Manages the information technology staff and system
Plans and manages staffing training and performance evaluations for the Engineering Department
Make decisions regarding hiring evaluation promotion and termination of employees
Assigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being met
Works with corporate leadership to manage engineering and technology capital projects to the established budgets
Manages and coordinates station connectivity production set ups A/V routing and patching audio equipment graphics systems and editing systems
Assist News department in maintaining critical systems for live on air and streaming newscasts and programming
Implements installs and maintains engineering systems and provides end-user support across all departments
Evaluates selects installs services and maintains station equipment and information technology systems
Communicates and coordinates with equipment maintenance and training with vendors/contractors
Maintains station vehicle fleet including live satellite truck
Oversee facility maintenance buildings and grounds electrical plumbing and HVAC
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
Associate or bachelors degree in engineering IT Communications or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience preferred
Requires a working knowledge of television and digital studio broadcast and production systems
Experience managing maintaining and supporting IT and networking systems
Communication skills along with organizational and interpersonal skills as well as report writing responsibilities for WROC Nexstar and the FCC
Evaluates selects installs services and maintains station equipment and IT systems
Communicates and coordinates equipment maintenance and training with vendors/contractors
Works closely with General Manager and department heads to ensure station objectives are being met
Evaluates employee access and trains employees on station systems and equipment
Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work flexible hours and be on call as needed for operations
Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record
Fluency in English; strong communication both verbal and written
Performs other duties as assigned
Compensation: $75000 to $81000annualizedcommensuratewith applicants experience and skill level.
