Providing services for the Division Central Services is comprised of eight departments in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive Communication Services Facility Services Student Transportation Human Resources Financial Services Supports for Students and Information Technologies. Central Services is staffed by 190 employees.


EIPS is recruiting a term certain full-time Speech Language Pathologist Assistant with our Support for Students department.


This position supports students with complex communication needs through the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Experience or training as aSpeech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)is a strong asset butnot required.

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant plays an important administrative collaborative and instructional support role within the EIPS Assistive Technology Team. This position provides essential administrative coordinationincluding organizing materials managing inventory supporting documentation processes and assisting with communication between team members and schools. The role also involves collaboration with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) Occupational Therapists (OTs) and the Teacher Consultant to ensure smooth delivery of AAC and assistive technology services across the division.


In addition to administrative and team collaboration duties the Assistive Tech Assistant supports the implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for students with complex communication needs. This includes assisting with AAC programming developing materials supporting students directly as directed by SLPs and helping learning teams integrate AAC tools into everyday classroom routines.



Duties and Responsibilities


Student & Instructional Support

  • Support learning teams with implementing AAC strategies for students with complex communication needs.
  • Model communication strategies and help integrate AAC tools within classroom environments.
  • Work directly with students as directed by supervising SLPs.
  • Monitor and document student progress using logs charts and data sheets.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of communication supports when requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.


Assistive Technology & Materials Support

  • Assist with programming updating and troubleshooting AAC devices (e.g. TouchChat LAMP Proloquo2Go).
  • Support the development and organization of AAC materials and visual supports.
  • Create communication and therapy materials using tools such as LessonPix.
  • Assist in the development of home communication programs when needed.
  • Maintain inventory of AAC equipment and materials ensuring resources are clean organized and prepared for use.


Administrative & Collaborative Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support such as record updates inventory tracking and resource organization.
  • Participate in professional learning related to AAC and assistive technology.
  • Meet regularly with supervising SLPs and attend staff meetings when required.
  • Direct all clinical or diagnostic questions to supervising SLPs.



Qualifications and Skills


Required

  • Experience and/or strong interest in AAC and assistive technology.
  • Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organization and time management abilities.
  • Ability to follow direction work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and work independently when needed.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.


Assets

  • SLPA training or experience(not required but highly beneficial).
  • Knowledge of AAC software and applications (TouchChat LAMP Proloquo2Go etc.).
  • Knowledge of LessonPix or similar material-development tools.
  • Experience working with students with complex communication or learning needs.
