Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position existsis to assist in the medicine surgery preventative medicine and quarantineprograms of the Montgomery Zoo. The work responsibilities of the position are:performs routine and diagnostic laboratory testing assists in medicalprocedures performs administrative related functions such as records keepingand inventory and contributes to the departments objectives. This positionreports to Zoo Veterinarian.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have anAssociates degree in Veterinary Technology or a closely related field and one (1)year of veterinary technician experience at an animal shelter veterinaryclinic or other animal care facility. AVeterinary Technician License is preferred.

NOTE: Qualifying education training andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be able to work weekends and holidaysand special events. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Drivers license andan insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles to transportmedical materials to provide on-sight medical assistance to animals. Qualifiedapplicants must submit to amedical exam following a conditional job offer to demonstrate that they are live withinthirty-minutes of the Montgomery Zoo in order to respond to emergencies as theyarise; or be willing to relocate within the first six months.

Kind of Examination

The current vacancyis with theCity of Montgomery Zoo.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. If more than five qualified applications are received a selection procedure will beadministered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken.
