AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Designer/Engineer to join our growing Tunneling Practice in Canada.
This role is ideal for a technically strong collaborative professional with extensive experience in tunnel design underground structures and geotechnical/structural analysis for major infrastructure programs.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and independently organize work plans design tasks and deliverables for medium- to high-complexity tunneling and underground projects.
- Apply commercial numerical modelling software including finite and distinct element tools to support advanced analyses.
- Develop verify and validate analytical design spreadsheets for geotechnical and structural calculations.
- Provide expert guidance in soil mechanics rock mechanics and groundstructure interaction to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Contribute geotechnical and structural expertise for underground components on major transportation and water conveyance projects.
- Provide technical input for tunnel design methodologies means and methods and proposal development.
- Design tunnels using TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) and SEM/NATM (Sequential Excavation Methods).
- Design SOE (Support of Excavation) systems for shafts pump stations portals cut-and-cover structures and deep excavations.
- Participate in constructability reviews value engineering workshops and risk management activities.
- Prepare contract documents design reports technical specifications and drawing packages.
- Review and supervise the work of intermediate engineers and mentor interns especially on numerical modelling tasks.
- Collaborate closely with internal disciplines external partners and clients to support successful project delivery.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of AECOMs tunneling standards tools and best practices.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Civil Structural Geotechnical Engineering or a related field and 6 years of relevant experience in tunneling underground structures geotechnical engineering or related disciplines or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Hold a . in ON or in BC or have the ability to obtain it within one year from starting of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in tunnel design underground construction or major infrastructure programs (highly preferred).
- Masters Degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.
- Experience with both large-diameter (5m) tunneling and trenchless technologies.
- Technical expertise in TBM tunneling SEM/NATM shaft design ground improvement and deep excavation support systems.
- Strong knowledge of geology hydrogeology rock mechanics and ground behavior.
- Proficiency in analytical and numerical methods for underground works including 2D/3D modelling.
- Ability to work independently and make informed technical decisions with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present technical concepts clearly.
- Strong teamwork coordination and client-facing skills.
