TITLE:Construction Inspection Specialist

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of experience in the construction industry.
- Valid Drivers license
Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
- Demonstrated competence in construction inspection activities.
- Excellent understanding of construction plans and specifications.
- Experience in facility construction and large project facilitation.
- Knowledge of computer systems.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well with others be flexible and adaptable to meet daily requirements of the position.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours as required by the position.
- Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Primary responsibility is associated with Capital Improvements funded by Secure and Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) and other funding sources. This specialist will be responsible for coordination and oversight of day-to-day activities of contractors and acts as a liaison between project administrators and contractors. Maintains daily job log and is familiar with plans and specifications. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Arranges or attends preconstruction conferences construction start-ups jobsite meetings and weekly review meetings.
- Responsible for project management including scheduling and reporting progress on a weekly basis.
- Monitor onsite construction processes to ensure that specifications and plans are implemented properly.
- Monitor and facilitate contract close-out process and documents.
- Review estimate and recommend action on project change requests and maintain change order log.
- Assist and provide recommendations on pre-construction design.
- Weekly review of onsite contractor prints and specifications to ensure that they are up to date and posted with current design changes.
- Conduct frequent inspections of jobsite to ensure quality assurance of project.
- Communicate/coordinate project schedule with building stakeholders on a regular basis to allow for activity and staff planning.
- Act as liaison between designers and contractors as well as building stakeholders.
- Work with Executive Assistant (EA) to ensure accurate project record keeping including but not limited to change order tracking purchase order tracking pay applications etc.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

MANUAL DEXTERITY TASKS: Frequent use of telephone computer other
WORKING CONDITIONS:Frequently inside outside and extremes of temperature/humidity
Some schools are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity. Many buildings are not fully accessible. During site visits other hazards include physical contact with hot surfaces steam water pressure moving machinery and asbestos.
