We are on the lookout for a full-time permanent Head of Department within our Applied Management department.

About this role Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

This role will be responsible for the academic leadership management quality of learning and teaching research and new programme development within your own department/programme area ensuring that the highest standards are maintained. The Applied Management department covers both postgraduate and undergraduate programs. This role is pivotal in shaping the curriculum enhancing student engagement and ensuring the delivering of high-quality education that meets industry standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty industry partners and stakeholders to foster an innovate learning environment that prepares students for successful careers in management.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Lead inspire mentor and support faculty members in curriculum development teaching methodologies and research initiatives
  • Embed experiential learning principles (enquiry-based project-based and/or problem-based) and learner capability development into the curriculum and teaching practices
  • Ensure compliance with educational standards and accreditation requirements
  • Foster partnerships with industry stakeholders to align academic programs with current market needs
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the Applied Management department to enhance academic offerings and student outcomes
  • Assume an academic load which will vary depending on business priorities. Academic load has three components research teaching and curriculum development and innovation
  • Manage departmental budgets resources and administrative functions effectively
  • Conduct regular assessments of program effectiveness and implement improvements based on feedback and performance metrics
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the department

Skills and Experience Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with the below skills and / or experience where they are able to deliver high quality outcomes:

  • Masters degree in management Business Administration or a related field; a PhD is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an academic leadership role preferably as a department head or director
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and program management in higher education
  • Strong understanding of current trends in applied management and educational practices
  • Excellent leadership communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty students and industry partners
  • Tertiary teaching qualification (NZCATT) or equivalent (at Level 5 or above)
