About the role:LABBB is hiring a Special Education Teacher Assistant to work with high school students with a range of disabilities including intellectual communication and behavior challenges. The person in this role provides instruction to our students in community-based settings (such as business farms archives hospitals and food service) and needs to be flexible to provide this type of community instruction at various sites where students are the classroom; Special Education Teacher Assistants support the implementation of lessons and activities to further students skill development associated with educational functional and therapeutic needs; provide individual and small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher; utilize and maintain a wide variety of technology and assistive communication devices for students; implement sensory mobility behavior equipment and self-care plans (including toileting feeding etc.) and facilitate interactions among students that provide opportunities for emotional social and cognitive growth. The person in this role is responsible for providing specialized support to help students engage in learning activities in a substantially separate classroom setting general education inclusion settings and within the community as well as assisting special education teachers and specialists throughout each school day.
** This position supports both classroom and community experiences; however community based instruction is a core and fundamental part of this role.**
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelors Degree Preferred
- Experience working with children young adults or in human services related field special education experience highly desirable.
- Ability to work with students with a variety of disabilities including but not limited to social emotional behavioral non-verbal non-ambulatory etc.
- Valid drivers license and ability to transport students in a LABBB van.
- Working full time (35 hours per week) 11 months (school calendar plus required 4 weeks in summer).
Responsibilities:While out in the community this role:Provides training and on-the-job support for students at community- based work data on student progress and provides feedback to the appropriate program supervisor on the progress of the students at the job good work behavior on the job breaks and lunches with the workers and assists students with integration into the work and adapts jobs as necessary so that students of all ability levels may be able to participate in the learning process at workers monitors safety issues and reports any problems immediately to the Vocational Coordinator Facilitates positive working relationships within the community-based business and acts as a liaison between the business and LABBB CollaborativeSeeks opportunities to expand our productivity and work within community work in the classroom this role:Assist with arrival and departure of the supervision of licensed staff assist in the implementation of appropriate data driven culturally responsive instruction and implementation of individual education plans and behavior intervention schedule as assigned including reassignments to different program locations as instructional materials as requested/directed by the students development of independence social awareness language academic skills and appropriate student data and provides it to members of the students team (teacher transition counselor related service provider)Effectively utilize any recommended adaptive equipment for individual all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectful and timely LABBBs mission and core values as well as adhere to laws policies procedures and ethical standards of the field and contribute to a positive and safe school students personal care needs which may include activities of daily living (ADLs) such as communication toileting feeding transferring self-care and assistance with mobility including lifting Supervise students across educational settings including at lunch and in the community.
Salary Range: $43475 to $59892 commensurate with experience and education. *2025-2026 Salary range is for school year and includes compensation for required 4-week summer program
