Job Summary

Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin (CMHA Peel Dufferin) is partnering with LAMP Community Health Centre (LAMP CHC) and Roots Community Services Inc (RootsCS) to design develop and implement an integrated health and social services hub with and for the Black African and Caribbean (BAC) communities in Peel Region.


The hub will provide primary health mental health addictions and social services programs that will holistically address the physical mental social and cultural needs of BAC communities and seek to eliminate disparities and inequities.

We are currently seeking a Permanent full-time Clinical Team Lead - ACTT/EPI. The Team Lead will support the Program Manager in the day-to-day operations and clinical delivery of core services offered by a diverse multidisciplinary team supporting Black African and Caribbean communities. This may include mental health addictions nursing peer support counselling and psychotherapy services.


This position is structured as a 50% direct client caseload and 50% administrative leadership duties.


CMHA Peel Dufferin has adopted a hybrid working model including a mix of on-site and remote work. This role is required to be on-site at various CMHA and/or partner sites as well as in the community as required by program and client needs.

What you will do

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations on the ACTT/EPI team and lead daily team huddles
  • Work with marginalized populations including those experiencing mental health concerns
  • Support staff in prioritizing client issues and tasks as needed.
  • Support the Manager in team meetings including planning chairing and following up with actions as appropriate.
  • Support the Manager in case conferences including planning chairing and following up with actions as necessary.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage during shifts
  • Escalate staff and clinical issues to the Manager as appropriate
  • Aid leadership in program development
  • Participate with identifying and organizing training for the program
  • Ensure service data is being collected and recorded regularly; daily reports done in a timely manner
  • Provide support team with training and accuracy with program data base
  • Provide back up to the manager as needed

What you need to join our team

  • Bachelors degree in health social services or related disciplines such as counselling and psychotherapy social work or nursing; Masters degree is an asset
  • Registered Health Professional with a College or Association is required
  • Minimum one year of supervision or leadership experience in a clinical or community setting.
  • Minimum five years experience in community mental health setting
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to effectively work with Black African and Caribbean communities.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multidisciplinary team and evidence of an understanding of the importance of partnerships and collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of the current and historical health inequities experienced by Black African and Caribbean communities.
  • Demonstrated and practical understanding of anti-Black racism and intersectionality and various barriers which affect diverse identities
  • Intersectional understanding of current social realities and barriers experienced by BAC communities from an anti-oppressive anti-racist feminist self-aware and trauma-informed approach to practice is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of local cultural programs and services to refer individuals and families from Black African and Caribbean communities within the service catchment area.
  • Being knowledgeable in a variety of evidence-informed treatment modalities including anti-Black racism anti-oppression and other culturally sensitive approaches to intervention.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work with diverse groups as well as an understanding of social determinants of health and impact on vulnerable communities
  • Skilled at engaging in matters that require sensitivity and empathy across a diverse community excellent judgement and discretion; ability to operate in a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive framework
  • Working knowledge and/or an understanding of various disciplines; including but not exclusive of mental health substance abuse harm reduction newcomer challenges and barriers faced by those in marginalized populations.
  • Fluency in a language reflecting the diversity of the Peel-Dufferin region including French is a definite asset
  • Valid drivers license automobile in good repair and insurance coverage as required by organizational policy
  • Satisfactory police records search and vulnerable sector screening
  • Required immunization(s) and/or administered vaccine(s) as per CMHA Peel Dufferins Immunization Program Policy
