Position Summary:

The School of Public Administration (SPA) at Florida Atlantic University (R1/Very High Research Activity) invites applications for an Associate or Assistant Professor specializing in Public Policy. This is a full-time benefits-eligible academic-year (9-month) faculty position based in Boca Raton Florida that will begin in August 2026.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in public policy process theories and research with the area of policy specialization being open. We are seeking applications from candidates who have evidence of an intellectually rigorous coherent research agenda seeking grant opportunities and engaging in university and community service activities. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses in public policy and public administration policy process theories regulation and policy implementation. The successful candidate may also contribute to the mission of the PhD program by serving as an active member of the Public Policy track contributing to comprehensive exams serving on dissertation committees and teaching advanced policy courses.

  • Responsible to the Director of the School of Public Administration
  • Teach courses in policy process implementation and evaluation
  • Actively participate in dissertation committees contributing to comprehensive exams and teaching advanced courses in public policy
  • Conduct high-quality research in public policy
  • Responsible for service and related administrative activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications for the Associate Professor:
A Ph.D. in Public Policy Public Affairs Public Administration or a directly related field such as Political Science.
Evidence of tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor or a portfolio that would enable tenure and promotion to Associate Professor upon hire.
An emphasis on public policy in general and public policy process theory.
Demonstrated evidence of excellence in scholarship and undergraduate and graduate teaching is essential.
A record of service to their university profession and/or community and demonstrated potential for leadership roles in the school college university and community.
Superior communication skills and the ability to teach across multiple degree programs (in-person and online modalities).
Evidence of contributions to excellence in student learning through research teaching and/or public engagement with experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
A record of or the potential to obtain external research funding.
Demonstrated engagement with local state and national public administration and service organizations in related areas of expertise.

A Ph.D. in Public Policy Public Affairs Public Administration or a directly related field such as Political Science. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. prior to hire and before the start of the fall semester.
An emphasis on public policy in general and public policy process theory.
Potential for excellence in scholarship and undergraduate and graduate teaching.
A record of service to their university profession and/or community and demonstrated potential for leadership roles in the school college university and community.
Superior communication skills and the ability to teach across multiple degree programs in different modalities (in-person hybrid and online).
Evidence of contributions to excellence in student learning through research teaching and/or public engagement with experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
A record of or the potential to obtain external research funding.
Demonstrated engagement with local state and national public administration and service organizations in related areas of expertise.


Preferred Qualifications:
For the Associate Professor rank preference is given to those with prior experience as an academic program coordinator or similar academic service role.
For the Assistant Professor rank a strong preference is given to those with 2 or more years as an Assistant Professor.

Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University not to the individual applicant.
