Summary of Job Duties:

An Associate Staff Scientist position is available in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Highly motivated individuals experienced with molecular and cellular techniques used in in vitro and in vivo tumor studies are sought with a strong interest in cancer research. The Xu laboratory is an interdisciplinary research lab focusing on understanding the roles of tumor microenvironment (TME) components including adipocytes fibroblasts immune cells and extracellular matrix in breast cancer metastasis and therapeutic resistance. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research using biochemistry molecular/cellular biology and mouse model approaches to understand how TME promotes breast cancer progression and drug resistance. The candidate will also be trained in data analysis manuscript and grant preparation and presenting research findings in scientific meetings.


Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biomedical sciences or related field plus four (4) years of directly related experience.

  • Proton knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform molecular biology techniques involving DNA RNA and protein analysis.

  • Conduct cell biology experiments including cell culture viability assays immunostaining flow cytometry and live-cell imaging through microscopy.

  • Utilize mouse models including genetic models to investigate normal tissue injury and tumor response to treatment.

  • Maintain overall laboratory organization ensuring equipment materials and workflow are properly managed.

  • Develop maintain and manage project and research databases while implementing appropriate quality control and data security protocols.

  • Demonstrate and uphold the UAMS Core ValuesIntegrity Respect Diversity Teamwork Creativity and Excellencein all work activities and interactions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Additional Information:

This position is a Designated Research Position and is regulated by the Arkansas Research Education Protection Act of 2025. Prior to issuance of an offer of employment the University is required to request and obtain additional information about an applicants background and if required conduct an additional review of that background information.


Salary Information:

$67000.00 or commensurate
