Job description :

Role Overview

As a Control Engineer you will be responsible for the design implementation and scaling of automated and semi-automated control systems using advanced engineering principles. You will develop PLC code integrate multiple subsystems (conveyors robots MES machine vision) research emerging technologies and modernize legacy control systems. This role requires both technical depth and leadership serving as a key technical resource and mentor for internal teams and external automation suppliers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Automation & Control System Engineering

  • Design develop and implement automated and semi-automated control systems for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop PLC code (Rockwell Logix GE RXi) that integrates with conveyors robots MES machine vision systems part-tracking and 3rd-party equipment.
  • Architect program and debug PLC ladder logic/IPC software with strong emphasis on structured maintainable and reusable code.

Process & Equipment Development

  • Develop new or improved manufacturing processes through engineering theory and practical application.
  • Create factory-level line-level and machine-level controls standards and specifications for internal teams and automation partners.
  • Implement ANSI/RIA 15.06/OSHA-compliant safety systems for robots gantries conveyors and high-volume equipment.

Integration Networking & Industry 4.0

  • Build HMI screens that are intuitive simple and rich in diagnostics.
  • Work with IT to connect manufacturing assets to enterprise networks following OT standards.
  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives including SCADA Historians OPC servers IoT platforms and data integration.
  • Utilize SQL Python or Java for data analytics or control-related automation (preferred).

Supplier & Project Leadership

  • Prepare RFQs/RFPs manage cross-functional design reviews and engage machine builders for automation equipment.
  • Travel for equipment qualification acceptance testing and supplier collaboration.
  • Provide ongoing support to other sites as needed (mostly day trips).
  • Lead automation suppliers and coach junior engineering colleagues.

Legacy System Modernization

  • Identify legacy controls at risk create remediation plans and execute structured upgrade projects.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Stay updated on new technologies and apply them to solve complex automation challenges.
  • Develop and standardize best practices procedures and frameworks across the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 7 years of hands-on experience with Rockwell Logix PLCs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert-level PLC programming integration and validation for high-volume automated equipment.
  • Experience with GE RXi platforms.
  • Strong background in OT hardware design and industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience creating equipment technical specs machine qualification protocols DOEs and root-cause analysis.
  • Expertise in machine safety circuit design and safety PLC programming.
  • Familiarity with SCADA IoT integrations SQL Python/Java.
  • Experience with Fanuc robotics (preferred).
  • Exposure to SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
  • Able to work in a global cross-functional engineering environment.
