Job Overview: This position exercises leadership in the Coordinated School Health unit of the Office of Public Instruction through interaction with the education community; local state national and federal organizations institutions and agencies. The specialist performs professional technical and administrative duties in the management of a statewide health education program for school-based tobacco use prevention. Other duties include developing mechanisms for integrating tobacco use prevention and media literacy concepts and programs consistent with state school accreditation standards; developing and implementing strategic work plans and policy development activities; providing technical assistance and training; identifying and justifying program priority needs and evaluation; monitoring programs conducted by contracted service providers; and promoting awareness of the tobacco education program as part of a comprehensive health education program.

Knowledge of managing expenses related to travel and presentation materials within allocated budgets.

Knowledge to design and implement effective tobacco use prevention programs tailored to specific target populations.

Ability to be flexible and able to adjust presentations and materials to suit the needs and preferences of different groups and settings.

Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders including school administrators community leaders healthcare providers and local organizations.

Ability to design and create educational materials brochures presentations and digital content to support prevention efforts.

Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member.

Ability to establish and maintain professional interactions and communications.

Ability to develop and deliver technical assistance.

Ability to interpret federal regulations and assist in the development of state rules and regulations.
