Description

Clean Harbors in St. Paul MN is seeking a Household Hazard Waste Technician I to support the CleanPack and Treatment and Disposal business. The HHW Technician supports the Countys Household Hazardous Waste Program by safely unloading materials from resident vehicles and properly segregating hazardous waste electronics and other accepted items. This role involves hands-on work attention to safety procedures and interaction with the public.

Schedule:

  • TuesdayFriday: 10:30 AM 6:30 PM

  • Saturday: 8:30 AM 4:30 PM

  • OFF MONDAY/SUNDAY

  • Monday: Optional shift available for additional hours (overtime applies after 40 hours per week)

Responsibilities
  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents by unloading household hazardous waste from vehicles (e.g. batteries paint chemicals e-waste and related materials).

  • Sort and segregate materials into appropriate disposal categories (hazardous waste electronics recyclables etc.).

  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines for handling and storing hazardous materials.

  • Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.

  • Operate equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts (if certified).

  • Perform general labor duties as needed.

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices policies and processes and always acting in a safe manner
  • Proper packaging of waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
  • Ensure work area maintained in a neat and orderly manner
  • Participate in spill response on customers site as needed
  • Attend all compliance and safety update meetings
  • Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance
  • Operate forklift in a safe manner
  • Safe loading and unloading of waste hauling vehicles
  • Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as necessary
  • Follow all local state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT local state (provincial) and federal requirements
  • Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Attention to detail able to take and follow direction and to perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to interface with customers
  • Perform physical functions per job requirements
  • Successfully complete a background check drug test and physical by position
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Drivers license
  • General labor experience required.

  • Ability to perform heavy lifting.

  • Forklift operation skills preferred (certification a plus).

  • Prior experience in hazardous waste handling or disposal preferred.

  • Strong attention to safety and compliance.
