Reporting to the Manager Neonatal Care Team the Occupational Therapist (OT) works as part of an interdisciplinary team providing Occupational Therapy services to infants in a Family-Centred Care Environment. The OT provides assessment intervention and follow-up/evaluation (as appropriate) for infants with occupational performance challenges related to neurodevelopmental concerns and their families. This may be on a direct consultative or monitoring basis. The OT will collaborate with the Neonatal Care Team to support parents in reading and responding to infant feeding readiness cues to promote the co-occupation of feeding in the neonatal unit and following transition to home. The OT is also responsible for developmental assessment and intervention positioning parent education pain management ADLs discharge planning for home etc. The OT liaises with clients/families and team members to ensure continuity of care. The OT provides supervision to Rehabilitation Assistants as appropriate. The successful OT will be responsible for staying current on best practices.
This position requires daily recording of workload documentation of program plans for clients and documentation of intervention plan changes. Therapists must follow the documentation guidelines established by IWK Health and their regulatory body. The OT works in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Leader. The OT participates in client and family meetings team and discipline meetings discipline and Health Centre related activities/committees and precepting student learners as appropriate. The OT shares responsibility with all OTs to provide coverage throughout IWK Health as required.
