Job Summary

The School Bus Attendant and Bus Driver ensures the safety comfort and support of students while being transported to and from school and school-related events.

Requirements

Bus Attendant Job Responsibilities

  • Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus safely including those with special needs
  • Monitor and encourage appropriate behavior on the bus
  • Secure students using seat belts harnesses or mobility devices as required
  • Provide physical and emotional support to students as needed
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment:
    • Remove trash after each route
    • Wipe down seats and high-touch areas as needed
    • Refill first aid kits and basic sanitation supplies
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students parents and school staff
  • Use mobile phones only for emergency purposes or necessary parent communication
  • Keep a current student roster and parent/guardian contact information readily accessible at all times
  • Assist in conducting safety and evacuation drills
  • Report all incidents injuries or safety concerns immediately to the driver or supervisor
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
  • Promote and support a respectful inclusive and positive environment for all riders
  • Performance of other duties as determined necessary by leadership
  • Attend occasional professional development sessions and transportation tame meetings as scheduled by Employer.

Bus Driving Responsibilities

  • Maintain and hold all required licenses and certificates necessary for the job
  • Safely operate a school bus in accordance with all traffic laws and district policies
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure mechanical safety
  • Ensure a clean bus interior including removal of trash and wiping down surfaces daily
  • All students are to be picked up and dropped off only at approved locations
  • Maintain student discipline on the bus following Transportation Department behavior guidelines
  • Carry updated student rosters and parent/guardian contact information at all times for emergencies
  • Maintain the first aid kit refilling supplies as needed
  • Refrain from using a mobile phone unless for communication with a parent/guardian or in case of emergency
  • Report any behavioral or safety issues promptly to the Transportation Director
  • Follow assigned schedules and report any delays mechanical issues or accidents immediately
  • Assist students as needed when boarding or exiting the bus
  • Maintain professionalism and act as a positive representative of the school at all times
  • Complete required reports for incidents accidents or safety checks
  • Participate in emergency evacuation drills and transportation staff meetings
  • Performance of other duties as determined necessary by leadership

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with children or students with special needs is a plus
  • Ability to manage student behavior calmly and respectfully
  • Physically capable of assisting with lifting securing wheelchairs and performing emergency procedures
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong communication skills
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with School Bus Driver endorsements
  • Computer proficient
  • Must pass a background check and complete required district training (e.g. First Aid/CPR student safety protocols)
