The Dathel and John Georges Student Center is located on the second floor of the Clemons Library. It hosts programming and services to improve students access to and knowledge about UVA resources. The Center seeks to employ one Federal Work Study Front Desk Intern who will play an important role in running the space and its programs during the Spring 2026 semester. This position will participate in a structured internship experience through theTransformational Federal Work-Study (TFWS) Internship Program.
The Intern will be stationed at the Centers front desk sharing a wide variety of responsibilities. These may include:
In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined above this position will participate in a structured internship experience through theInternship Placement Program (IPP). If selected interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.). (the courses are offered 9 times during the spring offering plenty of options to choose from.
Through this robust internship experience students will receive dedicated career support from their supervisor and gain key skills and competencies that align with future job interests. The FWS Internship will look great on your resume and provide the student with impactful stories to share in interviews.
Internships are best suited for students in their 2nd 4th years.
Applicants must be punctual reliable and able to work independently as shifts will often be unsupervised. Front Desk Assistants working hours usually range from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with later opening on the weekends. We prefer candidates who can work between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays. Hires can expect to work 10 hours per week during regular semesters and maybe more hours (fewer than 20 hours per week) during midterm or final exam weeks.
The Center seeks to employ students with a broad array of experience and interests and students of all majors are encouraged to apply. However those with prior experience working with the public or a high level of knowledge of university resources are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be interested in improving the advising experience for their peers; capable of interacting professionally with students faculty staff and co-workers; punctual and detail-oriented; and able to work as part of a team. A Successful Intern may repeat the Internship Program in the future semester.

Eligibility:
We welcome applications from all UVA students (undergraduate and graduate students) with federal work study eligibility. Preference will be given to undergraduate UVA students in their 2nd-4th years.
Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours are eligible to apply as full-time enrollment is for employment.
Compensation:
This position pays $13.00 per hour. Training hours are paid at the same rate.
