Under the supervision of the Upward Bound Coordinator the Academic Tutor provides supplemental instruction and academic support to program participants in grades 912. The primary objective of this position is to improve student performance in core academic subjects and assist in the development of necessary skills for postsecondary education. Responsibilities include facilitating daily homework assistance leading subject-specific study groups monitoring student academic progress and maintaining accurate documentation of services provided in accordance with federal TRiO grant regulations.Job Description:
The Upward Bound Academic Tutor serves as a key support staff member for the TRiO Upward Bound program. This position is responsible for providing academic assistance mentorship and encouragement to high school participants (grades 912) who are from low-income families and/or are potential first-generation college students. The Tutor works to improve participants GPA standardized test scores and general study habits to ensure high school graduation and successful entry into postsecondary education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Instruction & Support
Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in core high school subjects with a focus on Math / Science / English / Foreign Language.
Assist students in understanding homework assignments and preparing for upcoming exams.
Simplify complex concepts and reteach material using various instructional strategies adaptable to different learning styles.
Facilitate review sessions for standardized tests (state assessments ACT SAT TSIA).
Identify academic gaps and report struggling students to the Academic Coordinator for further intervention.
