Caretaker – Secondary School in Oxford

We are currently seeking a reliable hardworking and proactive Caretaker to join a thriving and well-regarded secondary school in Oxford. This is a full-time permanent position starting January 2026 offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced or aspiring school premises professional.

About the Role
The role is varied practical and hands-on suited to someone who is organised confident and able to take initiative. Responsibilities include:
Opening locking and securing the school site each day
Carrying out minor repairs maintenance and general DIY tasks
Overseeing the cleanliness and safety of classrooms corridors and external areas
Monitoring and managing heating lighting alarms and security systems
Supporting the work of cleaners contractors and premises staff
Setting up rooms and facilities for exams assemblies events and lettings
Conducting regular health & safety checks including fire safety and compliance logs
Responding quickly to emergency issues related to site safety or maintenance
Maintaining stocks of equipment and site supplies and managing deliveries
Ensuring all areas of the school are safe accessible and well-maintained for daily use

Experience and Qualifications
Previous caretaking site maintenance or facilities experience desirable
Strong practical skills across basic repairs maintenance and DIY
Good understanding of health & safety safeguarding and site security
Ability to communicate well with staff students and contractors
Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently
Reliable proactive and able to prioritise tasks effectively

Salary
Support staff scale dependent on experience.
