We are seeking to recruit an ALS tutor who will support students on a 121 basis small workshops or in the classroom to help them achieve their desired qualification. The successful candidate will require knowledge of learning support needs and the ability to give guidance and support to teaching staff to develop further good practice in supporting students with learning difficulties. We require someone with good planning organisational administrative and IT skills including working on data systems such as Pro Solutions and Pro Monitor. We need someone with the ability to inspire and promote independence for further study preparation for adulthood and empower our learners at Oaklands through appropriate support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist support to students to improve their achievement of programme.
- Responsible for assessing the support needs such as dyslexia with students to ensure timely provision of support and share information with relevant members of the team and curriculum areas.
- Monitor and review progress of students and provide regular updates to all parties.
- Regularly consider and update learning materials and resources. Adjust support if required.
- Liaise with personal tutors course teams Exams office and other relevant people about the need of event of concerns liaise with personal tutors to resolve student support needs.
- Attend relevant meetings and events including team meetings consultation evenings and employer and community liaison.
- Participate in self-assessment performance review and staff development activity.
- Prepare reports for external parties for example parents employers training agencies.
- Not subject to normal teaching contract hours
- Be aware of and follow College policies and procedures with particular attention to health and safety safeguarding risk management equality and diversity quality and our values and behaviours. You will be required to attend training as necessary and update own CPD record.
- Lead on annual reviews of EHC plans (Where required)
Is This You
Qualifications and Experience
A Level 5 or 7 qualification in SpLD to assess for Exam Access Arrangements is desirable but not essential.
A qualification in literacy numeracy Autism Mental Health LDD or ESOL is also essential.
A Teaching qualification is essential (PGCE) or equivalent qualification.
To have been graded a good or outstanding teacher on 3 consecutive occasions.
Has passed a Level 2 qualification in English maths and IT or equivalent College assessment.
Experience and proven success in providing learning support to students with learning difficulties.
Experience and flexibility in providing a range of support needs including 1:1 in class and group support and ability to differentiate approaches to support.
Ability to work well with students of all backgrounds.
Ability to work both collaboratively with colleagues and on their own initiative.
Flexible and solution-focused approach to work
Drive and passion to implement curriculum developments.
Skills
Effective organisational skills (self and workload)
Extensive knowledge of own subject area
(In addition to teaching ability) effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency with software needed in role.
Experience of working with people in a learning environment
The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
The ability to give guidance and support to teaching staff to further good practice in supporting students with learning difficulties.
