The overall purpose of this position is to support the IEEE Tax Management team with US and global taxing jurisdictions as it pertains to IEEEs operations and to assist with tax planning by researching and implementing tax solutions that optimize the organizations tax obligations.
Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Tax reporting and compliance - non-profit income tax sales and use international
Monitor changes that impact the organization
Basic tax research
Maintain tax procedures
Interface with volunteers staff and professional tax preparers
Educate volunteers and staff regarding tax processes and requirements
Make recommendations for business and process improvements
This position proactively works under general guidelines by following established procedures but also works under consultative direction.
Key Responsibilities- Tax Compliance. Accurate preparation and timely filing of assigned tax returns: Forms 990 990-T 990-PF and related state charitable and income tax returns Federal state and local income tax returns Indirect tax returns (SUT VAT GST JCT etc.) International tax returns/reporting (Formsetc.) Forms 1099 and 1042 tax filings Other required statutory reporting
- Tax Planning Maintain and update Tax Policies & Procedures Assist with tax research Improve efficiency and controls Complete essential reconciliations
- Problem Solving Review and resolve issues that arise with the enterprise transaction tax system or government taxing jurisdiction platforms and coordinate duties for the tax engine Uniform indirect tax coordination for IEEEs global conference business Assist with monthly administration of the transaction tax system Assist with administration of tax return preparation software Respond accurately and timely to inquiries from internal and external customers and make recommendations when appropriate Special projects
Education- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience accounting or tax Req
Work Experience- 2-4 years tax and/or accounting experience Req
Licenses and Certifications - CPA or JD with tax/finance background Pref
Skills and Requirements - Basic experience with tax preparation and tax research. Non-profit international and indirect (sales and use or VAT) tax experience a plus.
- Effective interpersonal skills to ensure that tax compliance plans are created that address the needs and known constraints of the IEEE enterprise.
- Ability to analyze compliance requirements identify problems design appropriate reporting solutions and solve problems with moderate supervision.
- Must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential matters.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written with respect to assigned work.
- High level of initiative and motivation.
- Must be able to work in a deadline oriented environment.
- Technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges. Proficient in various computer applications including tax software (direct and indirect tax applications) Google and Microsoft Office suite including Word Excel and PowerPoint. ERP system experience a plus.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies including automation and AI in tax process design and transformation.
- Ability to build relationships and constructively interact with the team internal IEEE departments and volunteers.
- Works independently with moderate supervision.
