Job Purpose
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) function is responsible for monitoring administering evaluating and coordinating environmental health and safety programs to promote a safe workplace and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
This role leads Environmental Health Safety and Security (HSE&S) activities and performance at the Montreal site serving as the technical expert for HSE and Security. The individual ensures the integration of HSE&S regulations and guarantees alignment between Smiths Interconnect standards and site-specific needs.
Responsibilities
Lead all HSE&S programs and initiatives at the site ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and Smiths Interconnect requirements.
Manage adherence and continuous improvement of processes in accordance with OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Coordinate external contractor services for facilities needs such as but not limited to janitorial services electrical plumbing routine maintenance etc.
Build effective relationships with site leaders to sustain a strong HSE and Security culture.
Implement best practices and coordinate HSE activities across the site.
Serve as the technical expert for HSE & Security providing guidance and support for audits benchmarking and reporting.
Input monthly site reporting into Smiths Interconnect PRISM HSE Platform.
Develop and deliver safety policies procedures and training programs; Identify training needs and ensure compliance.
Drive sustainability initiatives to meet energy and water reduction targets and minimize waste generation.
Stay current on HSE legislation and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders.
Conduct hazards evaluations and risk assessments in industrial settings.
Liaise with Smiths Interconnect HSE & Security leadership team and sister sites globally.
Complete regular HSE&S reviews with site leadership to assess performance and identify opportunities.
Oversee hazardous waste management and maintain safety equipment inventory.
Support industrial hygiene life safety ergonomic compliance and workers compensation program administration.
Qualifications :
Minimum 3 years of experience within a manufacturing environment required.
Significant relevant experience in lieu of degree considered.
Degree in Environmental Science Occupational Health & Safety Engineering or related field
Preferred: Lean/Six Sigma experience; Internal Auditor certification for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Ability to travel to the United States as required (approximately 5% of the time)
Knowledge of local and regional environmental safety and health laws regulations and standards.
Expertise in Safety and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001).
Proficiency in incident investigation procedures including reporting root cause analysis and corrective action development.
Understanding of Global Harmonization SDS (Safety Data Sheets) chemical labeling spill reporting prevention and exposure control.
Strong interpersonal communication and team-building skills.
Excellent spoken and written English skills required; ability to understand and communicate in French (intermediate level) preferred.
Controlled Goods and Technology
A part of this position you will be required to examine handle or transfer highly confidential equipment and technologies including technical data or any technical assistance (such as instructions training etc.) classified as controlled goods. These goods have military or strategic significant are critical to national security and are strictly regulated under the Defence Production Act (DPA) and the Controlled Goods Regulations (CGR) as part of Canadas Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites and meetings venus. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
