Job Summary

SUMMARY: A Childrens Counselor works with children and their families to address emotional behavioral and psychological issues. They help children navigate challenges such as trauma anxiety depression and family dynamics. Utilizing various therapeutic techniques they aim to foster a supportive environment that promotes healthy development and emotional well-being. This role demands patience empathy and a deep understanding of child psychology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with children.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on each childs needs.
  • Collaborate with parents teachers and other professionals to support the childs progress.
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed records of counseling sessions and treatment plans.
  • Assess the emotional and mental health of children through observation and interaction.
  • Use therapeutic techniques such as play therapy art therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  • Educate parents and caregivers on how to support their childs emotional well-being.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust them as needed.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in child counseling.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters degree in Counseling Psychology Social Work or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting.
  • Specialized training in child therapy techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and managing high-stress situations.
  • Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work.
  • Experience in a counseling or therapeutic role with children.
  • Knowledge of child development and psychological theories.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Empathy patience and a genuine interest in improving childrens lives.
  • Three to five years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified and preferably in working with Native American population.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) Licensed Masters of Social Work (LIMSW) or Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in the State of Nebraska or eligible for licensure in the State of Nebraska.
  • Must be credentialed per Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center Behavioral Health Department policies and procedures of billing of services under Medicare/Medicaid.
  • Possess a valid Drivers License.
  • Must have a clean driving record and be insurable under the Health Centers insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Provider should be in good physical condition without health issues or handicaps that would prevent the provider from carrying out other duties.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work week-ends and holidays.
