Position Marketing Statement

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is accepting applications to fill the position of Elevator Compliance Specialist. Under the direction of the Elevator Safety Division Manager the candidate will travel throughout the state and review elevator safety-related state laws rules policies procedures administrative and court orders and other similar government and OSFM mandates to ensure local municipalities are complying with all applicable requirements. The ability to analyze information and develop complex comprehensive reports based on findings is essential. The candidate ideally has a compliance background and will work to ensure Illinois municipalities comply with the Elevator Safety and Compliance Act. As the Elevator Compliance Specialist and employee of the State of Illinois the selected candidate will have access to state healthcare benefits and a pension plan. Essential Functions

  • As the Elevator Compliance Specialist for the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Elevator Safety Division serves as the statewide administrator ensuring Illinois municipalities comply with the Elevator Safety and Compliance Act.
  • As the Elevator Compliance Specialist and function administrator reviews elevator safety-related state laws rules policies procedures administrative and court orders and other similar governments and OSFM mandates to ensure local municipalities are complying with all applicable requirements in a uniform and consistent manner.
  • Composes prepares edits and tracks a variety of audit reports compliance reports and notifications.
  • Travels statewide to sites to verify compliance information and provides training as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires two (2) years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Specialized Skills

  • Requires one (1) year of experience coordinating a regulatory program.
  • Requires three (3) years of experience enforcing compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience coordinating a regulatory program.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience enforcing compliance requirements.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience conducting risk analysis in a regulatory environment.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in the application and enforcement of state elevator safety laws rules codes and standards.
  • Prefers four (4) years of experience working in the elevator safety industry.
  • Prefers OSHA 10-hour certification.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a current and valid drivers license.
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to travel with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires the ability to pass drug screening.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be requested to work overtime including scheduled unscheduled or last-minute overtime.
  • This position is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)).Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 job may require a good deal of walking or standing orinvolves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
