Position Overview

Staff of the Division of Emerging Health Issues (EHI) regularly work collaboratively with other individuals in the division with other individuals within the Department and with external partners to identify and report on violence and injury among Illinoisans. This position will provide data-related feedback and recommendations through active participation in injury and violence prevention committee meetings provide daily support to data-related and evaluation-related efforts including data analytics data collection and reporting support the state violence and injury epidemiologist in general injury and violence public health surveillance and reporting efforts and will be directly responsible for dissemination of data findings to stakeholders and public audiences. Employees of this office are currently working a hybrid schedule with one in-office day every two weeks. The candidates work schedule and in-office day can be negotiated upon candidate selection.

  • Assists the Injury Epidemiologist to plan organize execute control and manage a statewide injury surveillance system and other data-related projects for the Injury and Violence Prevention Program (IVPP).
  • Assists the Injury Epidemiologist to define and develop an analysis plan for the surveillance data.
  • Uses injury surveillance data to inform injury violence and suicide prevention.
  • Defines an evaluation plan for surveillance system and monitor prevention activities.
  • Serves on committees addressing injury data-related issues.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in public administration accounting industrial relations prelegal or personnel management.
  • Requires two (2) years professional experience in public administration business management or accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience using statistical and informatics tools to perform analyses and organize data from surveillance investigations evaluations or other sources in a professional or academic setting.
  • One (1) year experience using or analyzing ICD-10 and ICD-10-CM coding in a professional or academic setting.
  • One (1) year experience developing an evaluation plan for surveillance and prevention activities and monitoring components of ongoing surveillance and prevention activities.
  • Two (2) years experience with Microsoft software products including word excel and Power-Point.
  • One (1) year experience developing and analyzing findings from Microsoft excel pivot tables writing and utilizing analysis and statistical functions and utilizing power queries or similar tools.
  • Two (2) years experience preparing written and oral reports and presentations that clearly communicates necessary information to others in a professional or academic setting.
  • One (1) year experience building and maintaining constructive working relationships with others.
  • One (1) year experience managing and completing multiple projects with overlapping timelines and deadlines.

Specialized Skills

  • One (1) year experience using statistical and informatics tools to perform analyses and organize data from surveillance investigations evaluations or other sources in a professional or academic setting.
  • One (1) year experience using or analyzing ICD-10 and ICD-10-CM coding in a professional or academic setting.
  • One (1) year experience developing an evaluation plan for surveillance and prevention activities and monitoring components of ongoing surveillance and prevention activities.
