BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Communications Unit is seeking a UN Volunteer (UNV) Communications Specialist to support the production of high-quality communications materials and enhance the visibility of WFP and its partners among national and global audiences.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer and within delegated authority the UNV Communications Specialist will:

  • Develop communications materials that raise WFPs and donors visibility highlight programme impacts and build momentum for further action.
  • Produce human-interest stories that showcase programme results and amplify community voices.
  • Collect and produce videos and photos to strengthen WFPs visibility across different platforms.
  • Produce engaging content for WFPs social media channels including X and Facebook.
  • Maintain and update the social media content calendar and provide a bi-weekly overview of planned posts hallmark dates campaigns and advocacy opportunities.
  • Monitor WFPs social media platforms daily track engagement and reach and prepare monthly performance reports.
  • Maintain and update the media directory at national regional and international levels.
  • Strengthen relationships with journalists editors and media partners.
  • Support media engagement during events donor visits press conferences briefings and interviews with senior management.
  • Liaise with multimedia companies and communications experts to support the production of high-quality content.
  • Provide translation of press releases op-eds and other external communication products (English Urdu) as required.
  • Archive and update all digital communications content for internal and external use.
  • Select and upload relevant content to WFPs Multimedia Hub for global sharing.
  • Track and share monthly coverage of WFP in media and social media to support donor communications.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the

related functional area in Mass Communication Journalism or social sciences is required.

University degree in Mass Communication Journalism or social sciences or related field is an advantage.

Experience:

Minimum 6 years of experience in public and/or private sector with provincial/national/ international organization(s) demonstrating evidence of communication and related assignment at the strategic and field level

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and basic graphic design tools. Knowledge ofusing Canva or Adobe Suite is an asset.
  • Hands on experience of developing and implementing communication for the field operations;
  • Strong familiarity with the provincial context including different tiers of government and donor agencies
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative multi-tier team environment;
  • Good communication people management and writing skills.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of the development sector is required. Previous UN or NGO experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications
  • Team player

Languages:

  • - Fluency in English and Urdu is required.
