Job Summary

We provide an incredibly nurturing and dynamic learning environment for our 360 neuro-diverse learners aged 521 years in the base school (Panmure) satellite units in 14 mainstream schools and a community programme for 18-21 year olds in Highland Park. Our 300 team of educators therapists specialists and teacher aides work together in a multi-disciplinary approach to meet the individual needs of every learner with personalised learning programmes.

About Sommerville School: to the schools growth we have term time only positions 25 hours per week requiring the following attributes:

empathy and patience
good listening skills
willingness to learn new skills
calmness and encouraging demeanor
a full NZ drivers licence and access to a car is strongly preferred
fully willing and able to support students with toileting and personal care
willingness to get in a swimming pool (candidates who can swim are strongly preferred)

The terms and conditions including base salary for this position is set by the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement with considerations to previous experience within special education. The base pay rate for Teacher Aides currently ranges from $25.18 - $38.77 per hour depending on your qualifications and experience. Your base pay rate will be established by a salary assessment once you have been appointed.

This position commences in Term 1 2026.
