The Network Engineer is an important contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You use your telecommunications network skills and experience to contribute to specialist analysis design development and deployment in specific network technology domains including how this technology inter-operates with other technologies.

Responsible for the development of technology standards and solutions for Telstras international transmission network

What Youll Do

Key Responsibilities:

As a Network Engineering Specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Development of test documentation test and deliver to agreed timelines quality performance and customer service levels.

  • Develop and/or contribute to the development of test strategies test plans test readiness test report documentation.

  • Be recognised as a subject matter expert for transmission technology and platforms and provide expert support consultancy guidance and facilitation to other areas of Telstra in the preparation business and technical evaluation of new technologies and product development.

  • Maintain and build expertise on Telstras networks and products technologies and operating systems.

  • Develop and maintain standard and best practice deployment documentation and reference material.

  • Work with external vendors to assess technology platforms deliver products and services and troubleshoot advanced network issues.

About You

  • To be successful in this role you will have experience with the following:

  • Previous experience in network engineering roles.

  • Use of telecommunications test equipment and testing methodologies (C-OTDR BER RFC2544).

  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications technology Ethernet DWDM OTN SDH PDH MPLS-TP Segment Routing.

  • Strong competence in analysis problem solving troubleshooting and leadership.

  • Stakeholder & project management.

  • Working knowledge of tools such as JIRA Confluence Excel Sharepoint Visio Project.

Not required but nice to have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Telecommunications (or equivalent).

  • Experience with using different telecommunications programming interface protocols CLI TL1.

  • Familiar with vendor management systems (DNA MCP).

  • Familiar with vendor technologies (Infinera Ciena Ericsson).

  • Familiar with inventory systems.

  • Knowledge of installation and/or commissioning of telecommunications hardware.

  • Submarine Telecommunications Cable Experience
