Program Overview Neighbourhood Programs Homeward Bound unit
Homeward Bound is an employment wrap around program that assists female-led families who are living in unstable conditions make a successful transition to sustainable employment permanent housing and independent living for themselves and their children. The program includes many components including career development and life skills academic upgrading and computer training and a college diploma program. There is also an internship component and access to sustainable employment opportunities. Homeward Bound also offers on-site childcare family support and an after-4 program for school aged children.

As a Child Program Worker youll create a safe welcoming environment where children can learn play and thrive. Youll plan and deliver engaging activities support educational and life skills development and ensure childrens well-being during daily routines and special events. Your work will directly contribute to helping families overcome challenges and achieve lasting stability.

What You Will Do
Youll play an active role in creating a safe welcoming space where children feel valued and supported. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and leading after-school activities that encourage learning creativity and life skills.
  • Offering spontaneous age-appropriate activities that spark joy and curiosity.
  • Safely escorting children from local schools to our program site.
  • Preparing and serving healthy snacks that meet diverse dietary needs.
  • Supervising children during on-site programs and off-site trips ensuring safety and inclusion for all ((March break PA Days Summer break).
  • Following all relevant legislation organizational policies and best practices to maintain a respectful and secure environment.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Post-secondary education program (completed or currently enrolled).
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during school breaks and holidays including March Break and Summer Camp.
  • Knowledge of child development and the unique learning needs of children aged 412.
  • Ability to work with children and families who may have experienced systemic barriers including homelessness or violence with empathy and respect.
  • Understanding of community development and child-centered approaches that celebrate diversity and inclusion.

  • Experience supporting children with emotional or social challenges in a compassionate way.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and confidence in fast-paced settings.
  • A proven ability to build trusting non-judgmental relationships with children.
  • First Aid Certification (an asset but not required).
