About the role
The Science Technician will be responsible for setting up and clearing practicals maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with COSHH and health & safety procedures. The Science Technician will manage inventories place orders for consumables and liaise with external contractors for specialist repairs. Based in Islington the Science Technician will play a key role in making lessons practical safe and enjoyable for pupils while enabling teachers to focus on pedagogy.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare equipment and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations in a timely and accurate way.
- Maintain chemical and consumable inventories ensure correct storage and manage ordering processes.
- Carry out routine apparatus maintenance log faults and coordinate repairs with external providers.
- Keep safety documentation risk assessments and COSHH information current and compliant.
- Support practical demonstrations assist with out-of-hours events and contribute to departmental stock planning.
Person specification
- Prior experience in laboratory support or technical roles with strong organisational skills.
- Familiarity with COSHH lab safety handling and storage of chemicals and routine risk assessment.
- Methodical reliable and able to prioritise across a busy timetable in Islington.
- Comfortable supporting a range of science practicals and liaising with teachers and external suppliers.
- Available to take up post January 2026 and to attend induction and departmental briefings before January 2026.
