Job Summary

Position Title:1.0 FTE Long-Term Substitute Special Education Reading Teacher

Reports to:Building Principal Evaluation Team Supervisor and the Director of Special Education

Terms of Employment:To cover a leave of absence from approximately February 23 2026 - May 15 2026 unless circumstances dictate a change.

$175 per diem for days worked. Non-benefits eligible at-will position.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide multisensory reading approaches to struggling readers (i.e. Orton Gillingham and Wilson).
  • Match and adapt multisensory reading approaches to individual student needs.
  • Develops and delivers multisensory reading lessons to individual and small groups.
  • Collects records and evaluates on going data on pupils reading growth to support lesson planning IEP development and progress monitoring.
  • Communicates regularly with parents in addition to conferences to discuss pupils progress.
  • Ongoing collaboration with school and district personnel.
  • Consultation with school staff regarding reading development for struggling readers.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program and to determine special education eligibility.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Valid Moderate Disabilities license at the appropriate grade level and/or Specialist Teacher: Reading license All Levels
  • Masters degree in one of the following areas: Moderate Disabilities at the appropriate level; Special Education in Literacy; Reading; or similar degree

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.

Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy
