Key Responsibilities
- Design build and modify precision tools dies jigs and fixtures.
- Repair and maintain existing tooling to ensure optimal production efficiency.
- Operate various machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDM machines to fabricate components.
- Interpret blueprints schematics and technical drawings to determine tool specifications.
- Perform precision measurements using gauges micrometers calipers and CMMs to verify accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems implementing effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on tool design improvements and new product development.
Recommended Qualifications
- Completed a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship or possess 5 years of equivalent experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating and setting up conventional and CNC machine tools (milling turning grinding EDM).
- Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints schematics and apply GD&T principles.
- Skilled in the use of a wide range of precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Strong knowledge of various tool steels carbides and heat treatment processes.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing complex tooling.
Bonus Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks Mastercam).
- Experience with TIG/MIG welding for tool repair and fabrication.
- Knowledge of advanced metrology equipment such as CMMs or optical comparators.
- Experience in the design and fabrication of jigs and fixtures.
- Understanding of various heat treatment processes for tool steels.
