The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Design fabricate and assemble precision tools dies jigs fixtures and gauges from blueprints or CAD models.
• Operate and maintain various machine shop equipment including lathes mills grinders and EDM machines.
• Perform preventative maintenance repairs and modifications on existing tooling to ensure optimal performance and extend lifespan.
• Troubleshoot complex tooling problems diagnose root causes and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
• Interpret technical drawings specifications and GD&T requirements to ensure accuracy and quality of manufactured tools.
• Select appropriate materials heat treatments and surface finishes for tool components based on application and performance requirements.
• Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks of finished tools and components using precision measuring instruments.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or vocational program.
• Proficiency in operating precision machining equipment (manual and/or CNC mills lathes grinders).
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints schematics and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Demonstrated experience in the fabrication repair and maintenance of various tooling dies jigs and fixtures.
• Expertise in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
• Solid understanding of metallurgy material properties and heat treatment processes relevant to tooling.

Bonus Qualifications

• Advanced CAD/CAM software proficiency for complex tool design and simulation.
• Experience operating CMMs or other advanced metrology equipment for quality assurance.
• Demonstrated ability in tooling design optimization for manufacturability or cost reduction.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
