The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in East Lansing that are seeking Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities

• Design build and repair precision tools dies jigs and fixtures.
• Interpret blueprints schematics and 3D models to determine tool specifications.
• Operate conventional and CNC machinery (lathes mills grinders EDMs) to fabricate tool components.
• Perform precise measurements using calipers micrometers gauges and CMMs to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Conduct preventative maintenance troubleshooting and repair of production tooling.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and design.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or vocational program.
• Proficiency in operating conventional machining equipment including lathes mills grinders and EDMs.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints schematics and technical drawings.
• Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers calipers height gauges and bore gauges.
• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting repairing and maintaining various tools dies jigs and fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks Mastercam)
• Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
• Welding experience (e.g. TIG MIG) for tool repair and modification
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies
