Key Responsibilities

• Design build and repair precision tools dies jigs and fixtures.
• Operate conventional and CNC machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDMs.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints CAD models and specifications.
• Perform precision measurements and quality checks using specialized metrology equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling malfunctions implementing effective repair solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and manufacturing processes.
• Select and work with a variety of materials including tool steels carbides and alloys.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent practical experience (e.g. 5 years).
• Proficiency in operating and setting up a variety of manual and CNC machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDM.
• Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints technical drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Expertise in using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers calipers and height gauges for quality inspection.
• Solid understanding of metallurgy heat treatment processes and the selection of appropriate tooling materials.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing tooling issues ensuring high-quality and efficient production.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks Mastercam).
• Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g. CMM optical comparators).
• Basic welding or fabrication skills for tool repair and modification.
• Knowledge of various material heat treatment processes.
