ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the worlds largest humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict disasters and the impact of climate change. Around 20000 people work for the organization most of them in remote areas directly serving the hungry poor. To reach a world with zero hunger WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships. Serving as a broker between WFP and the private sector WFPs Private Partnerships and Fundraising Division (PSP) strives to mobilize funding technical assistance innovative solutions and visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission while offering companies and the wider public the opportunity to contribute to a world with zero hunger.
ShareTheMeal is WFPs fundraising and awareness-raising app. Free to download the award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger. ShareTheMeal was launched in 2015 as the first pilot of WFPs Innovation Accelerator which among other things supports start-ups and innovators in developing their ideas for zero hunger.
ShareTheMeal currently has more than 9.3 million users worldwide who have shared more than 160 million meals (US$ 100 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team located in Berlin and also remotely is focused on increasing the funds raised to help get to zero hunger by further developing the app to include new and innovative features increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives. As the user base has grown there is a significant opportunity to increase funds raised from existing users and deliver an exceptional experience to build a long-term relationship with each supporter.
ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
The Consultant reporting to the Head of Product for the ShareTheMeal initiative is expected to:
1. Lead with the Head of Product and the Product Managers the development of a state-of-the-art UX/UI:
Lead on designing user journeys based on the needs and the limitations of the users and of the context of use
Lead on the development of wireframes prototypes storyboards user flows animations and mockups of new/optimized features
Gather and validate business and end-user requirements
Prepare and iterate visual assets and pixel-perfect layout specifications for the native mobile apps and web working hand in hand with our developers and QA
Ensure that usability principles and UX best practices are followed and define specifications for user interface behaviours
Test the designs with end users at different stages of the product development cycle and refine the interface based on the findings to minimize fixes and rework during development
Provide Quality Assurance on the correct implementation of interface designs and behaviours
2. Continue to develop and implement a strong visual identity for ShareTheMeal
3. Maintain strong coordination with the Communications Advocacy and Marketing Division (CAM) and the Information Technology Division (TEC) on issues related to WFPs visual branding Human- Centered Design User Interface Guidelines and other design & technology standards
4. Train and support junior designers in conducting user research on new concepts and ideas and 1:1 interviews with our donors to get better insights on how we can improve our products.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
Bachelors degree Masters degree is preferred
Work history
At least 4 years of progressively responsible national or international
Technical expertise :
4 years of relevant experience researching conceiving and designing world-class mobile UX and native Android and iOS UI; additional experience in responsive web design is a plus
Strong sense of visual design deep knowledge of usability principles and relentless creative attitude that aspires to perfect user-centered design
Deep knowledge of your tools e.g. Figma/Sketch Illustrator After
Effects Zeplin UX prototyping tool such as InVision
Soft skills
Bold energetic self-driven team player with a passion for social issues
Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food
Programme
Highly organized with exceptional planning skills to deliver on
commitments
Ability to think creatively and strategically
Excellent communicator with ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different cultures disciplines and time zones

Language(s)
Excellent command of spoken and written English
Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus
(Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish).
