We invite applications for the temporary position of:

  • 0.20 FTE HUB Alternate Program and Lifeskills Support Teacher
  • Located at Lake Trail Middle School
  • Contact Day: Friday
  • Please note this temporary position will end on June 30 2026 or upon return of the incumbent.
  • The HUB Program Teacher (Low Incidence) will collaborate with other program teachers to provide daily instruction in all subject areas.
  • They work as a member of the Inclusive Education team to support students with low incidence challenges and Learning Support
  • Teachers classroom Teachers program Teachers Education Assistants the District Low Incidence Team and parent/guardian(s).

Education/Coursework requirements:

  • Degree in Special Education (i.e. post-secondary degree or diploma program with special education concentration).
  • Completed coursework designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in the areas of students with special needs learning disabilities strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Minimum 3-5 years recent teaching experience K-12.
  • Working knowledge supported by course work and experience of the special needs arising from autism spectrum disorder moderate to profound intellectual disabilities chronic health impairment and students with dependent handicaps.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of both elementary and secondary curriculum and the ability to support teachers on how to adapt and modify curriculum for their students.
  • Ability to design and implement programs to meet specific student needs.
  • Ability to develop and instruct functional and Lifeskills curriculum including independent living and employment readiness skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement social communication and executive functioning programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school administrators teachers parents and community professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with parent/guardian(s) community partners and the Student Services Low Incidence Team.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role with both teachers and paraprofessional staff and to provide training and problem-solving support.
  • Knowledge and ability to implement computer programs with special education technology to support student achievement.

Lake Trail Community School strives to apply middle school pedagogy based on research and best practices to meet the diverse learning needs of all students in an inclusive environment. We use a school-wide PBIS model and trauma-informed strategies to create a safe and caring school. All teachers are expected to collaborate as a team to offer engaging programs and opportunities such as electives or exploratories for students in areas other than the core subjects. Our teachers are committed to assessment for learning through school-wide assessment in literacy and numeracy. We work closely with our Community School Society to connect learning to the community and outside world and provide opportunities for students to belong.
