Job Summary

Whitgift is a leading independent day and boarding school for boys with approximately 1500 pupils including over 100 boarding pupils and flexi boarding pupils. It is set in an attractive 48-acre parkland site in South Croydon enjoying excellent links to London Surrey and the south coast.

During the summer holidays Whitgift runs its own summer school for international students utilising all its fantastic facilities and modern boarding house. Whitgift Summer School with its innovative and exciting English language and academic courses along with activities which involve English speaking students is designed to appeal to girls and boys aged 11-17 from all over the world.

We are seeking to appoint a Welfare Manager for our 2025 Summer School who will have overall responsibility for the residential pastoral care and well-being of all our summer school students. The Welfare Manager line manages a team of house parents in order to manage the boarding house effectively. They also work with the nurses to ensure the students medical requirements are met. They will be responsible for implementing Whitgifts safeguarding policy to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all students. The Welfare Manager is part of the Summer School Leadership Team.

Applicants must be passionate about the welfare of students and be committed to providing the best welfare provision pastoral care and student experience. Candidates must have outstanding time management and organisation skills with proven management and leadership experience in a summer school residential or boarding house context. The ability to motivate lead supervise and engage with staff and young learners is essential.

The successful candidate will have a degree and previous experience of working with children in a professional setting. Applicants with additional vocational training in areas such as childcare education or counselling are welcomed. Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential.

This is a residential role in order to offer students a first-class pastoral and welfare service. Even when off duty the Welfare Manager must be willing to assist in case of any emergency that may arise especially throughout the night.
