SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of an administrator a classroomteacherwill implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit. Theteachermay teach one or more subjects.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining a classroom environment based on respect and that reflects the values and mission of the Coral Academy of Science.
  • Establishing a culture of learning and an environment of positive social interaction that actively engages students in learning and self-motivation.
  • Confidence in the teaching ofMathandSAT/ACTMathTest Prep courses to high school students including but not limited to Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Algebra 3 Geometry Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry Calculus and Statistics (Pre-AP and AP experience helpful but not required).
  • Planning and developing effective lesson plans that cover the curriculum and address the students interests and needs.
  • Integrating technology into the curriculum.
  • Accurately assessing student learning through formative and summative assessments and effectively adapting instruction based on these assessments.
  • Keeping accurate records ensuring that students are progressing and monitoring progress through progress reports and report cards.
  • Performing supervision duties as assigned.
  • Meeting with students and parents to discuss any concerns or issues with student progress and learning.
  • Participating in school-based committees and working with other teachers in the social studies department and other departments in the school.
  • Attending and participating in ongoing professional development activities such as content-related Pre-AP and AP Summer Trainings.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience in teaching would provide the required knowledge and skills are qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Education: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience

and/or

Experience: Three (3) years of verified contracted teaching experience with a Bachelors Degree and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in Nevada

Knowledge of: Child development; behavior and characteristics of students; subject area and/or credential area of teaching. (e.g. special education math science etc.); effective teaching skills; planning and organizing; supervision and control; assessment and diagnosis; interpersonal relations.

Skill at: Creating an effective environment for learning establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers administrators counselors and other staff members. The ability to establish and maintain standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Effective utilization of technology in instruction planning data-based decision making and monitoring of student achievement.

License/Certificates: Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area/and or grade level.

Salary

Teachers Salary Schedule

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

Additional Job Information

Holiday: Eligible employees receive ten (10) paid holidays each year. Personal: Eligible employees receive (3) days of paid personal leave each year. Sick Leave: Eligible employees receive five (5) days of paid sick leave each year. Medical Dental Vision Insurance: Eligible employees may select an insurance plan wherein CAS contributes 100% of insurance premiums. Eligible employee paid dependent medical insurance is available for an employees dependents. Insurance Premiums - Summer Months: CAS contributes 100% of the district paid portion of eligible employees insurance premiums for employees who are not scheduled to work in the summer.
No State Income Tax. No Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more. Retirement benefit offered is the State of Nevada retirement system Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) which is one of the best in the country.
