POSITION SPECIFICS

The School of Engineering Design and Innovation within the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time professional track (non-tenure-line) open-rank teaching faculty position.

The School offers courses at both University Park and World Campus. The School offers courses related to the following programs:

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate is expected to teach up to five courses per year. While some of the teaching is likely to be of EDSGN 100 Cornerstone of Engineering Design (required for most first-year engineering students) the opportunity exists to utilize the successful candidates expertise in other design courses or programs of study within the school. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to student advising curriculum development curricular assessment serve on departmental and college committees and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty and industry partners. Ongoing professional development and engagement in activities that support teaching excellence and program innovation are also essential components of the role.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor include a masters degree or a Ph.D. in an engineering-related field by the start of the appointment and complementary teaching industry or other title of Professor of Practice should be reserved for persons who have accumulated a decade or more of high level and leadership experience in the private or public sectors outside the academy. Candidates will be considered for an academic rank commensurate with their education and experience in accordance with AC21.

Evidence of excellent teaching potential and enthusiasm for interacting with students is required. Applied experience and evidence of the ability to function in a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team environment is a plus. This position requires excellent writing and oral communication skills.

Rank and length of term are determined by education and qualifications. The anticipated start date is January 2026.
