Director of Rooms.
The Role
We are seeking a Director of Rooms to lead and inspire our Front of House and Housekeeping operations. This pivotal leadership role will oversee Reception Nights Concierge and Housekeeping ensuring seamless service delivery across all guest touchpoints. You will be the guardian of our standards championing excellence and consistency in every detail of the guest journey. The Director of Rooms reports directly to the Operations Director for Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort. We welcome applicants with a Housekeeping or Front of House background.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership:
- Direct and manage all Rooms Division teams (Reception Night Concierge Housekeeping).
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) that reflect five-star service standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of rooms corridors and public areas to ensure cleanliness presentation and compliance with brand standards.
- Oversee staffing rostering and resource planning to optimise coverage and cost control.
Guest Experience & Service Excellence:
- Champion a guest-centric culture and uphold the highest level of luxury service.
- Analyse guest feedback (e.g. satisfaction surveys online reviews) to identify trends resolve issues and drive improvements.
- Lead service recovery efforts for guest complaints or VIP situations ensuring swift appropriate and discreet resolution.
Team Development & Leadership:
- Mentor coach and develop your direct reports fostering a high-performance collaborative team ethos.
- Conduct regular briefings pre-shift meetings and communications to align the team with goals values and priorities.
- Manage performance reviews recruitment and training to build and retain talent in line with JAs standards of excellence.
Financial Management:
- Prepare manage and monitor the Rooms Division budget controlling labour costs consumables and operational expenses.
- Set and track KPIs (e.g. occupancy wage ratios room recovery costs) ensuring alignment with financial and operational goals.
- Work collaboratively with other departments (e.g. Sales Revenue Finance) to support revenue optimisation and profitability.
Strategic & Continuous Improvement:
- Develop and drive initiatives to improve service operational efficiency and guest satisfaction grounded in JA Resort values.
- Benchmark against international five-star standards and implement best practices from within the JA Resorts group and beyond.
- Partner with the leadership team (Operations Sales Spa Golf) to support business objectives and uphold the resorts brand promise.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with health safety and regulatory standards (e.g. fire safety COSHH risk assessments).
- Maintain rigorous quality assurance through regular audits and corrective action where required.
Who we are looking for:
- Experience in a similar senior rooms operations role within a luxury/5-star hotel or resort.
- Significant experience and understanding of hotel industry.
- Strong operational acumen across front office or housekeeping divisions.
- Proven leadership and people management skills; ability to inspire mentor and lead multi-department teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills able to connect with guests senior management and team members.
- High attention to detail and a relentless commitment to service excellence.
- Experience with hotel management systems and revenue management tools.
- Financial literacy: experience managing budgets cost control and departmental forecasts.
- Strategic mindset: ability to think long term identify improvement areas and deliver change.
- Flexible working: willingness to work evenings weekends and cover operational needs as required to suit the business.
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience working within or aligning operations to Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star service standards AA Red Star standards or equivalent internationally recognised luxury benchmarks.
- Previous exposure to international or multi-brand luxury hospitality.
- Qualification in Hospitality Management Business Administration or a related discipline.
