Powerline Technician Apprentice

Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNP) located in beautiful Fort Erie is looking for a motivated safety-focused problem-solver with a positive attitude to set up and maintain power lines that keep electricity flowing into the homes and business of our over 26000 customers.
Under direct supervision to do all kinds of work on secondary circuits and on live primary distribution circuits. Also assist Powerline Technicians and Lead Hand in the performance of work on energized circuits to a maximum 40 kV. Under direct supervision to locate and correct trouble on energized circuits
What this role does:
- Install maintain or repair power lines that keep the lights on for our customers.
- Identify defective devices voltage regulators transformers and switches.
- Inspect and test power lines.
- String power lines between poles towers and buildings.
- Climb poles and transmission towers and use truck-mounted buckets to get to equipment.
- Operate power equipment when installing and repairing poles towers and lines.
- Foster positive relationships amongst team company and customers.
- Comply and be familiar with all industry standards and work practices operating rules regulations as well as all pertinent OHSA regulations.
- Be able and willing to respond to work for unplanned events such as car accidents storms fires and any emergencies.
- Preform regular on-call duties as assigned
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
What makes you a successful candidate
- Enrolled in or successfully completed Post-Secondary Powerline Technician Program. Must be eligible to work in Ontario.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Restricted DZ or ARZ drivers license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
- General knowledge of line materials trade related practices/standards and operating rules and regulations.
- Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers customers and industry partners.
- Must have an excellent safety record and commitment to ongoing high standards of safety.
- Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers.
- Thorough understanding of equipment standards and practices applicable.
- Ability to think critically and analytically with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Unrelenting commitment and passion to safety ethics and continuous improvement.
