Job Summary

Join the team at Seattle Childrens Hospital a leader in pediatric care as an Advanced Practice Provider in the regions first pediatric-focused Psychiatric Urgent Care (PUC). This role is crucial in providing high-quality urgent mental and behavioral health support to children and teens across Washington state.

Primary Clinical Responsibilities

The APP will assume primary responsibility for the comprehensive clinical management of patients focused on urgent psychiatric assessment and acute care stabilization:

  • Urgent Concern Evaluation: Evaluate the patient and the reason for the urgent concern performing patient histories and conducting focused physical examinations and necessary diagnostic tests (within the scope of acute psychiatric assessment).
  • Treatment & Safety Planning:
    • Prescribe medications and discuss treatment options (medicines may be discussed in some instances).
    • Develop and help families create a safety plan which may include parent or caregiver-focused behavior management support.
  • Recommendations & Referral: Offer treatment recommendations and provide referrals to additional services in the community or at Seattle Childrens. (Note: PUC visits do not fast-track appointments with the main Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Clinic.)
  • System Scope: Provide direct care and clinical management primarily within the ambulatory PUC clinic (in-person and virtual) and assume responsibility for clinical management in other hospital settings including the emergency department and inpatient consultation services when required by departmental need.
  • Case Management: Direct or participate in initial case management referral coordination and continuing care to ensure appropriate handoffs to community providers.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate refer and consult with department attending physicians specialists and other members of the health care team to deliver effective efficient safe and high-quality care.
  • Quality & Education: Contribute to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects. Participate in education and research efforts for patients families and the health care team.

Required Education/Experience:

Masters degree as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program

One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.

Required Credentials:

For Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners:

Active unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington

Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner

For Physician Assistants:

Active unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington

Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

For All Providers:

Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.

Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.

Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Childrens Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws continuously throughout employment.

Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Childrens will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individuals employment at Childrens. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Childrens as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies. Questions regarding medical or allied health professional staff privileges may be directed to Medical Staff Services.

Preferred:

Two years experience in advanced practice provider role

Two years experience in pediatric health care

Compensation Range

$86669.40 - $127466.40 per year

*This position is eligible for relocation for qualified candidates.*

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity skills experience and expertise and may vary within the range provided.
