Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to and support Firstline Engineering Manager Plant Electrical Systems
  • Lead team and ensure designs meets a broad set of requirements encompassing AC and DC systems components and equipment; generator plus unit and reserve auxiliary transformers isolation phase bus duct medium and low voltage circuit breakers and disconnect switches with their trip units digital protective relays switchgear switchboards load or power centers motor control centers lighting and power service panels cable and wire building and containment penetrations conduit ducts raceway tray grounding lightning and cathodic protection motors adjustable speed drives batteries chargers inverters uninterruptible power supplies contactors switches etc.
  • Lead team with mentorship while assessing competencies and providing technical oversight of their standard work practices design processes software based data- centric tools and guides for design analysis modeling simulation configuration change and document management
  • Lead preparation of both high level strategic and low level detailed work identification definition planning resource assignment then costs labor budgets durations activity logic and scheduling across lifecycle phases of Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) projects
  • Lead day-to-day operations using adaptive risk informed oversight governance Pre-Job Brief 30% 60% 90% 100% Post- Mortem Reviews to ensure deliverables are produced and commitments met on-specification on-budget and on-schedule
  • Use data centric metrics to manage resource load balancing as well as delivery on-time performance in collaboration with support from Project Engineer and Project Manager
  • Support Scheduler Project Engineer Engineering Manager and Project Manager with understanding work execution quality delivery and productivity metrics as well as changes in scope issues or risks with their associated recovery or mitigation plans
  • Coordinate across matrixed Engineering Discipline teams to ensure interfacing systems designs and component or equipment selections are informed and optimized to provide the required features functions performance reliability availability maintainability and inspectability to meet higher level integrated plant design goals including fabrication or manufacturing construction and commissioning tests
  • Identify document and lead problem solving to resolution of technical or execution risks or issues
  • Host learning sessions as well as knowledge capture and transfer initiatives
  • Champion conformance with nuclear and discipline specific industry technical codes and standards including orders positions plans notices guides bulletins etc.
  • Remain knowledgeable on electrical system component and equipment products and technologies
  • Support LEAN simplification continuous process improvement and cost-out
  • Champion nuclear safety culture; Ensure compliance with GVH policies quality management system and corrective action program
  • Deliver work with integrity safety security quality delivery on-time and with competitive cost

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics Chemistry Computer Science or Mathematics or equivalent 4-year technical degree
  • solid experience in heavy industrial thermal power or nuclear industry working in facilities or plant electric power distribution systems design analysis-simulation-modeling sizing calculations component and equipment application selection and specification including requisition engineering and procurement support
  • strong experience in designing and specifying AC and DC systems components and equipment; generator plus unit and reserve auxiliary transformers isolation phase bus duct medium and low voltage circuit breakers and disconnect switches with their trip units digital protective relays switchgear switchboards load or power centers motor control centers lighting and power service panels cable and wire building and containment penetrations conduit ducts raceway tray grounding lightning and cathodic protection motors adjustable speed drives batteries chargers inverters uninterruptible power supplies contactors switches etc.
  • Significant experince field or site engineering responsible for power electrical equipment installation test and commissioning
  • Experience in performing independent or preferably team based system design or technical reviews including interfacing with requirements management independent verification and validation and independent quality assurance organizations
  • Experience with applicable industry global and national industry electrical codes and standards
  • Excellent knowledge skill and experience with PC and desktop engineering productivity software computer aided design or analysis and modelling and project collaboration tools
  • Experience in leading and performing work identification definition planning resource assignment or task assignment then costs labor budgets durations activity logic and scheduling and coordination as well as rigorous technical oversight of both internal and external Engineering Disciplines or organizations e.g.; Architect Engineering (A/E firms
  • Excellent English language skills both verbal and written

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master of Science in Engineering Physics Chemistry Computer Science or Mathematics or equivalent 4-year technical degree
  • Professional Engineer
  • PMI/PMP certified with proven project management experience
  • Experience working in or with architect engineering (A/E) firms
  • Experience performing of power electrical circuit dynamic to transient analysis e.g.; ETAP SKM and functional simulation modeling e.g.; 3KeyMAster Easy5 Simulink Matlab MathCAD using applicable software tools
  • Experience with thermal power preferably nuclear plant system design operations maintenance modifications and licensing support
  • Experience collaborating with Mechanical or other Process Systems Engineering to realize optimal large complex multi- discipline designs thru procurement and successful commissioning
  • Experience collaborating with Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering including electrical field device interface to the digital distributed control and information systems (DCIS) to realize optimal large complex multi- discipline designs thru procurement and successful commissioning
  • Experience in data communications and networking architectures and protocols for protection control and monitoring functions for digitally enabled electrical components and equipment
  • Experience in equipment proof qualification or type testing including functional environmental seismic or vibration electro-magnetic conformance and interference radiation etc.
  • Experience in US and international nuclear regulatory affairs licensing laws rules regulations guidance etc. applicable to electric power generation reactors
  • Clear thinker detail oriented insightful quantitative balanced and a results-oriented analyst and leader
  • Self-starter with energy positive Can-Do attitude and inclusive style Proven track record of delivering commitments on specification on budget and on schedule

  • Continuous improvement mindset LEAN Leader trained or certified
