We are seeking a skilled Automotive & Mechanical Technical Trainer to train students enrolled in a higher vocational engineering programme aligned to UK Level 4 & 5 standards (equivalent to Year 1 and 2 of a Bachelors degree). The role combines hands-on mechanical and automotive training with introductory design and prototyping support using industry-standard CAD tools.
This position is ideal for professionals from the automotive mechanical motorsport or EV sectors who are passionate about developing future engineers.
Teaching & Training
Deliver practical and classroom-based training in:
Mechanical systems and components
Automotive powertrains and vehicle systems
Engineering science and mechanical principles
Thermodynamics and engine fundamentals
Electric/Hybrid vehicle basics and safety
Conduct workshop-based teardown diagnostic assembly and vehicle setup sessions.
Train students in workshop safety tool handling and troubleshooting.
Design CAD & Prototyping
Provide hands-on training in CATIA or SolidWorks for:
3D part and assembly modelling
Automotive component design fundamentals
Basic surface and solid modelling
Drawing creation and interpretation (GD&T tolerances technical drawings)
Guide students in designing simple components brackets fixtures or prototypes relevant to automotive and mechanical applications.
Support students in converting conceptual designs into manufacturable models including basic prototyping (3D printing / fabrication support where applicable).
Demonstrate industry-aligned design workflows and best practices used in automotive and motorsport environments.
Assessment & Academic Standards
Conduct practical assessments CAD-based assignments and project evaluations.
Maintain records and documentation aligned with UK RQF vocational teaching and assessment standards.
Student Development
Mentor students stepping up from school-level learning to industry skills.
Build confidence in engineering problem-solving teamwork and design thinking.
Provide career guidance linked to automotive service motorsport EV maintenance mechanical engineering and junior CAD/Design roles.
Workshop Operations
Ensure safe use of tools machinery training vehicles and prototyping equipment.
Implement safety protocols PPE compliance and risk control measures.
Mechanical maintenance or automotive systems
Diagnostics powertrain or vehicle testing
Workshop or service operations
Motorsport or high-performance vehicle environments (preferred)
CAD Skills:
Excellent hands-on proficiency in CATIA or SolidWorks for 3D modelling and basic design.
Ability to instruct students in CAD fundamentals and support component/prototype development.
Strong knowledge of engines drivetrains suspension braking systems and workshop practices.
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to beginner learners.
Familiarity with EV/Hybrid systems and high-voltage safety is an advantage.
Experience as a trainer instructor technician or service engineer.
Exposure to motorsport performance engineering or precision mechanical environments.
Knowledge of diagnostic tools engineering drawings and troubleshooting methodologies.
