Job Description:
Service Delivery
- Clean offices multi-purpose rooms chapel staff and resident lounges bedrooms hallways lobbies washrooms corridors elevators stairways lockers and other work areas so that health standards are met. Keep all areas around the building clean and tidy
- Empty garbage bins empty and clean ashtrays and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas
- Sweep scrub wax and/or polish floors using brooms mops and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
- Wash windows walls ceilings hand railings woodwork waxing and polishing as necessary
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment ensure all equipment is cleaned disinfected and maintained on a regular basis
- Keep storage areas and carts well-stocked clean and tidy
- Polish silver accessories and metalwork such as fixtures and fittings (Stainless steel areas)
- Remove debris from parking lot storage rooms kitchen and dining room areas
- Clean rugs carpets using vacuum cleaners or water wash in warm weather
- Replenish housekeeping supplies and routine inventory recording
- Preparing the hostel floors for bed bugs spray walking with pest control technician to required areas to monitor the spry is done efficiently (Common areas such as dining rooms kitchen pantry day lounge and food bank)
- Sort linens load washing machines fold dried items and store them in linen closets accordingly. Carry linens towels toilet items and cleaning supplies using wheeled carts
- Assign and monitor duties with volunteers and probation volunteers (community service hours). Giving instructions regarding work methods and routines
- Deliver beds mattress and liens to client rooms
- Dust window curtains or any blinds in the WCOH building
- Bag label record store return and discard client belonging (Emergent Shelter client)
- Prepare board room activity room and chapel for meetings
- Clean and disinfect all water fountain in the building
Administrative
- Promptly report any damage to property or equipment to the Supervisor
- Adhere to all applicable safety rules. Operate equipment properly and general perform all work duties in a safe manner in terms of personal and public safety (e.g. use wet floor caution signs where required).
- Observe precautions required to protect client property and report damage theft and found articles to supervisor
- Keep Supervisor advised of any problems concerns or difficulties in performing duties
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Internal:
- Direct Supervisor and other management members staff and volunteers
- Conduct regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness
- Participate in other staff meetings when relevant
External:
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to: Business Director or Designate
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Ensure store all the clean supplies well and comply with health and safety regulation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a casual unionized on call with no guaranteed hours.
- Working environment is inside and outside building.
- The performance of the job requires the ability to lift/move 30 lbs. reaching bending twisting lifting moping sweeping and stooping frequently work in a standing position for long periods occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.

Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- The successful applicant will hold a grade 12 OSSD
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) which includes Vulnerable population check
- Non-violent crisis intervention training
- WHIMIS
- Onsite e-Training
- Must be able to ascend/descend flights of stairs
- Experience working with a vulnerable population
- The performance of the job requires operating cleaning equipment and tools mopping and sweeping bending/twisting/lifting occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
- Suitable written and oral skills
- The incumbent is required to lift to 30 pounds occasionally
- Be familiar with the Ontario Health and Safety codes and standards
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Attention to detail problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.55 to $18.55 with a maximum of $18.55.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
