Maintenance Specialist
Classification: Support Staff Non-exempt
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent or higher
Specialized training or experience with HVAC
Other areas of expertise such as plumbing electrical and/or carpentry preferred
Reports to (Daily): Maintenance Supervisor under the direction of the Director of Buildings and Grounds
Position Overview: Maintenance Specialists assume responsibility for maintaining and assisting in the improvement of the Districts property including all school and ancillary buildings. Performing diagnostic activities specialized repairs and/or upgrades and operating District equipment including vehicles and specialized equipment is within the scope of these positions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance activities inside and outside of the Districts buildings and property.
- Complete various site projects such as HVAC maintenance electrical needs plumbing projects and other internal building maintenance. External property maintenance may include brush removal tree trimming fence and asphalt repairs and/or other specialized repair activities.
- Substitute for employee absence within the department as needed and/or as directed.
- Assist the maintenance staff with tasks such as but not limited to HVAC electrical projects plumbing and facility repairs as needed and/or directed.
- Perform general labor inside and outside the physical plant including handling materials and supplies moving equipment and operating power-driven equipment. This includes navigating ladders lifts and other maintenance equipment.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment with regular communication to inform the Maintenance Supervisor of needs in advance so as not to hinder the continued performance of building maintenance.
- Ability to utilize District technology as it relates to our work order systems.
- Drive District vehicles and equipment. A special license may be required.
- Assist with seasonal grounds work such as snow and ice removal leaf removal and general lawn and grounds care.
- Maintain facilities in accordance with state and local safety code requirements Board of Education policies and administrative procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Other Related Responsibilities:
- Supervisory duties are limited to none but could include identifying reportable events related to students and staff while assuming regular duties.
- Assist and/or respond in the case of an emergency.
- Complete training as needed/required.
- Maintain confidential nature of school related material.
- Set up/Attend events outside of the regular work day designed to bring the public into the school (events such as graduation large activity or athletic events etc.).
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Buildings and Grounds staff work a 12 month calendar consisting of 245 work days designated paid holidays and scheduled days off. Benefits also include paid vacation annually and 12 paid leave days awarded annually with opportunity of accumulation of days from fiscal year to fiscal year. This position has a weekly scheduled time commitment of 40 hours with occasional overtime for facility emergency response. Matching defined benefit pension health insurance and ancillary insurance options included. Entry level pay starts at $21.93 but may be higher depending on experience and training.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated under the direction of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
PHYSICAL MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit. Additionally the employee is required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for project completion. Lastly this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
