Pre-School Special Education Teacher

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned.

• Follows legal requirements as dictated by state and federal statutes.
• Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
• Plans curriculum lessons and special education programs and teaching methods.
• Evaluates and monitors student progress.
• Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
• Prepares report cards educational records classroom observation records and other forms.
• Maintains communication system with parents/care givers of classroom students.
• Plans individual educational programs designed to meet students needs and conform to state and federal laws.
• Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of specific objectives to meet the needs of each individual student.
• Maintains regular attendance.

• The ability to interact with public and other staff is required.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents and community.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students and special education assistants for instruction purposes.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree from an accredited university.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators managers employees clients customers and/or the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to apply financial concepts and statistical inferences.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
• Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to use available information and develop long-term and short-term goals and objectives.

• The noise level in the environment is variable depending upon the activities in the environment.

• Certain teaching positions in special education dealing with more severely involved students will be at greater risk to exposure to infection than the average person; whereas teachers working with behaviorally disordered students will be more involved with confrontational and assaultive behaviors.
