The Substation Foreman is responsible for managing the repairs and maintenance of all substations. Including; transformers voltage regulators reclosers and other technical equipment and oversee all switching activities. Also schedules maintenance and makes emergency repairs when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observes and practices all safety policies and bulletins.
- Properly records maintenance data and submits to supervisor. Provides labor for maintenance of all substation equipment to include substation apparatus weed control fences buildings and gravel.
- Maintains and repairs OCRs transformers and regulators. Performs tests and repairs as directed.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of Cooperative communications and SCADA equipment.
- Provides assistance in the construction of substations. Assists in the installation of equipment in substations.
- Assists personnel with problems relating to technical equipment.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and work orders. Applies this knowledge in the field.
Skills Required:
- Must desire to provide and maintain adequate electric service for the consumers and be of service in all areas covered by the position.
- Must have good personal characteristics including; dependability honesty integrity and good health are especially desired.
- Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License or be able to obtain one prior to employment.
- Must be able to work eight hours a day five days a week. Must be able to work outside of these regular hours due to scheduled maintenance oil spills damage repairs etc.
- Must be able to perform all required duties of a qualified Journeyman.
- Must be able to use electrical/mechanical maintenance hand tools.
- Must be able to read and write to include reading and interpreting blueprints work orders and technical manuals. Must be able to apply this knowledge in the field.
- Must be able to work independently as required.
- Must be able to meet the public well and to answer routine questions.
- Must be able to command the respect of fellow employees.
- Must present good leadership and organization skills.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- Almost constantly works outside. Frequently works under inclement weather conditions.
- Must possess manual dexterity and visual acuity as well as the ability to listen and communicate orally to stand and walk; to frequently sit bend stoop squat lift and carry between 75-100 pounds; to occasionally push and/or pull reach above shoulder level climb balance kneel crouch and twist.
- Manual dexterity is required to maintain proper safety while performing maintenance work learn safe working procedures drive the vehicle to and from job sites construct and/or maintain electrical equipment move materials manipulate work materials both bare handed and working in electrically tested rubber gloves and to complete necessary paperwork.
- Constantly uses visual acuity and sense of hearing to locate possible hazards while performing duties of position.
- Frequently sits in a vehicle to drive and/or ride to various sites. The average number of miles and the amount of time driving/riding would vary depending on the location of scheduled work.
- Frequently bends stoops and squats to perform maintenance.
- Frequently lifts and carries between 75-100 pounds which consist of coil wire miscellaneous substation and line equipment and test equipment. Occasionally transformers will have to be lifted; however they are usually lifted by fork lift or line trucks and placed in position.
- Frequently pushes and/or pulls wire cable through conduit.
- Frequently reaches above at and below shoulder level to perform maintenance.
- Frequently twists while performing maintenance.
- Occasionally climbs and balances on a ladder.
- Occasionally kneels and crouches in certain underground installations and maintenance situations.
Qualifications :
Educational Requirements:
- A minimum of an Associates degree in Applied Science or related field.
- Must have a Substation Technician Certification.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in the electrical utility industry.
- Must have a working knowledge of REA construction specifications which include all residential services commercial services single phase two phase and three phase line construction.
- Must have a good background in SCADA and AMI equipment.
