Job Summary

Lead Veterinary Surgeon Coolock Area (75k Bonus)

The Vet Office is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a highly skilled dedicated team at a modern small-animal clinic located in the Coolock area.
This is a senior leadership position ideal for a confident motivated veterinary surgeon who is ready to take responsibility for both clinical excellence and team development while driving the overall performance of the clinic.

About the Clinic

The clinic is situated within a busy well-known pet retail store and includes:

  • Two consultation rooms

  • Separate cat and dog wards

  • A fully equipped surgical theatre

  • Diagnostic facilities including an X-ray suite

  • A dedicated dental room

  • A bright comfortable reception area

  • A strong commitment to fear-free handling and patient comfort

The team consists of experienced vets nurses and ACAs who prioritise high-quality patient care excellent client communication and teamwork.

Role Summary

The Lead Veterinary Surgeon plays a central role in the leadership structure of the clinic with overarching responsibility for:

  • Clinic performance and day-to-day operations

  • Delivery of exceptional clinical standards

  • Team engagement development and mentorship

  • Maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and care quality

The role offers significant autonomy supported by regional and operational partners to ensure the clinic meets its clinical client-care and business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead the clinical team with a positive motivational approach

  • Provide coaching mentoring and support to vets nurses and ACAs

  • Communicate internal updates effectively through regular team meetings
  • Collaborate with operational and medical support teams to set long-term clinical strategy
  • Promote equality inclusion teamwork and a healthy clinic culture

  • Build strong working relationships at all levels

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinics PAS Accreditation lead and ensure compliance with VCI regulations
  • Exercise sound clinical judgment and champion best clinical practices

  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols updates and purchasing guidelines
  • Mentor veterinary team members and support their professional development
  • Work alongside the Head RVN to ensure exceptional nursing and ACA performance
  • Promote preventative healthcare (vaccinations parasite control PHP insurance etc.)
  • Ensure transparency and accuracy in clinical estimates billing and case communication

Operational Responsibilities

  • Work with regional leadership to develop and implement the annual business plan
  • Take responsibility for meeting clinic KPIs and financial targets (monthly & annual)
  • Provide regular performance updates to the regional leadership team

  • Ensure smooth implementation of operational protocols and initiatives

  • Lead on team engagement and retention fostering a culture of openness and psychological safety
  • Support managers in building effective relationships and developing their teams

Note: Additional leadership duties may be required to ensure the effective running of the clinic.

Education Experience & Skills Required

Qualifications

  • MVB DVM or equivalent

  • Further qualifications in leadership finance or advanced clinical training (desirable)

Experience & Skills

  • Strong interest and experience in surgery

  • Excellent clinical decision-making abilities

  • Outstanding communication (written & verbal)

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills

  • Emotional intelligence and leadership capability

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Competence in mentoring or coaching clinical teams (highly desirable)

  • Financial awareness and ability to interpret basic business metrics
