Your New Role...
The CNN Photojournalist captures news events to the highest ethical aesthetic editorial and technical standards using the latest electronic news gathering and transmission technologies.This role requiresskilfulhandling of video photography audio video editinglightingandlogistics.
They must be able tocaptureand deliver a wide array of news andsometimesfeaturebasedstoriesacrossallourplatforms from TV Digitaltosocial.
Your Role Accountabilities...
VisualContent Production
You will be proficient in all aspects ofelectronicnewsgathering including cameras lighting sound drones video editing and transmission and delivery methods.
Collaborating with reporters producersvideoeditorsand desk personnelas well asworkingindependentlyyou will beable tocreatively tell visual stories that are relevant and compelling to our audienceacross all platforms.
You will be able tocoverall aspects ofnews shooting: b-rollinterview set ups andlive shotsas well as set up andoperatelive equipment using satelliteDigital Newsgathering/Live andbe versed inFile transfer protocolcapabilities.
Troubleshoots quickly and effectively in the field.
Ability to move footage throughfile transfer protocol (FTP)and otherdeliverymethods edit video and ensure full and rich metadata for CNNs digital library.
Editorial Contribution
With akeen news awareness for the stories to whichyouare assignedyou willutilise youreditorial technical and productions skills to producefirst classcontent for our multiplatform network.
You will be expected to be an editorial contributor to the team on whichyouare working to report out relevant content and information to the network.
You willhave the opportunitytotake the initiative to pitch produce and creatively tell relevant storiessubject toformal approval process.
A key part of this role is being able to conceptualise ideaswith reporters and producers toprovidingfeedback tohelp shapethe visual angle of our stories.
Gear maintenance
Youwillbe responsible formaintainingall technical gear including crew vehicleswhere applicable and workwith theappropriate departmentstoensureallequipment isup to date and in working orderto ensure no gaps in production.
Travel
You will be expected to travel to various news events often with little to no advance notice which may also involve hostile environments.
Aspart of this you willbe responsible forgathering packing and transporting gearbeing mindful ofunnecessary excess baggagefor budgetary savingsandas well as arranginglogisticsincluding airfare rental vehicle and lodgingwhere.
Administrative
You willbe responsible foraccountinganyexpensesyou make oncorporate credit cards andsubmittingthemin a timely mannerper company guidelines.
You will be responsiblewhereinensuringyou have theappropriate visa /credentialsfor deployment.
Be aware and ensure youstay abreast of company provided safety and security courses.
Qualifications & Experience...
Proven experience inelectronic newsgathering (ENG)and Fieldwork.
Proven experience in Video Editing with strong news editing skills.
You will be aself-starting editorially savvy individual who produces high quality work under pressure andat times inhigh stress environments
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt persevere and overcome challenges whilemaintainingapositive attitudeas well as being able to quicklyanalysesituations and make independent decisions.
Be available 24/7 for breaking news and have flexibility in your schedule to meet news demands which may require you to travel for extensive periods at a time including to potentially hostile environments.
The capacity to work individually or collaborate as a member of a teamis keyensuring you engageoperationally logistically and editorially onany story youare working on.
Familiarity with field production and cameras includingelectronic newsgathering (ENG)and large sensor and Video formats.
Knowledge of Internet protocol (IP)/Streaming Transmission Systemsandfile transfer protocol (FTP)systems;Premiere Pro edit software;Apple Mac operating system;Adobe After EffectsandPhotoshop software.
A broad understanding of technology including servers and Media asset managers isessential.
Have a working knowledge with Satellite trucks Satellite communications broadband bonded cel and other feed technologies and delivery methods.
Excellent written and verbal English and experience working to style guide.
Possess a valid Passport and Drivers licence.
